Description
From the day it was founded, Golan Heights Winery, in both philosophy and actions, has focused on in-depth study and research of the terroir of the Winery’s vineyards, and its impact on the way various varieties grow and realize their latent potential. This is done in a continuous process requiring significant investment, including the development of unique technological methods, alongside the promotion and enhancement of our experience and creativity. The Yarden Single Vineyard wines are premium wines produced from grapes grown in a single vineyard only. Each individually cared for vineyard block receives the utmost attention, in order to maximize the potential of our terroir.
THE BAR’ON VINEYARD
This single vineyard wine is produced solely from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in the Bar’on Vineyard. Located at an elevation of 1,040 meters (3,400 feet) in the northern Golan Heights, the Bar’on vineyard topography features both flat plains and a moderate southwest facing slope. Its soil is a mix of basalt and tuff and is well drained. The vineyard was planted in 2009 with the highest quality vines coming from the winery’s propagation block and nursery licensed by Entav-Inra. Bar’on is one of the winery’s flagship vineyards.
THE WINE
The 2013 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon Bar’on Vineyard presents bright cherry and ripe plum fruit characters, layered with notes of cigar and chocolate, all balanced out with hints of herb. Pleasingly complex, this single vineyard Cabernet is full-bodied and densely flavored. The wine aged for 18 months in French
oak barrels. Although pleasurable to drink upon release,
the 2013 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon Bar’on Vineyard will improve in the bottle in the coming
years, and should stay in excellent drinking condition for well over a decade from harvest. Wonderful for festive meals, the wine pairs fabulously with a grilled T-bone steak, a hearty lamb stew, or herb-roasted eggplant with tomatoes and mushrooms.
The 2013 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon Bar’on Vineyard is the first-ever release of a single vineyard Cabernet from this vineyard. The wine was produced in a limited edition of 30 barrels.
THE UNIQUE CHARACTERS OF 2013 VINTAGE
The early, wet winter preceding the 2013 harvest was followed by a warmish spring. While it looked like we were heading for an early vintage, the cool months of June and July led to the harvest starting about one week later than normal. The remainder of the season continued on the cool side. A wonderful feature of this growing period was a distinct lack of extreme weather, either hot or cold. The result was beautiful ripening, with harvest finishing exactly on time at the end
of October. All in all, this was a great season with great wines.
