Lovely Merlot rich Saint Emilion from great value Puisseguin
Tony Laithwaite has been buying wine from Vieux Château Guibeau owner Henri Bourlon for five decades now. In the 1860s a member of the Bourlon family helped conquer Mexico under the French emperor Napoleon III, then married and settled out there. Many years later Henri’s father came to Europe to study. Having fallen ill, he was advised to seek a cure in the country air of Puisseguin. There he met his wife, whose family owned Château Guibot La Fourvieille. He never returned to Mexico, but instead bought Vieux Château Guibeau next door. Its 6 hectares of vines are around 30 years old and produce top quality grapes.
